HONORS SYMPOSIA WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:

It is your responsibility to attend and write short response papers about three Honors Symposia this semester.

SYMPOSIUM SCHEDULE IS HERE

In the course of each response paper, please include:

1. Title your response with the title of talk or event
2. Accurately and vivaciously describe the subject matter and main points of the symposium
3. Discuss the overall takeaway meaning of the lecture and its significance within contemporary academic discourse
4. Evaluate the overall success of the lecture in conveying its central meaning

STRANGER THINGS MIDTERM ESSAY

Choose 1-2 films from the show bible linked below that the Duffer Brothers used as inspiration for Stranger Things. Within those films, identify and elaborate on how specifically they used elements from these films in Season I. Make sure to watch the original films and cite specific scenes and also articles and interviews with the Duffer Brothers where they discuss their inspiration.

STRANGER THINGS FINAL ESSAY

Compare and contrast Stranger Things seasons 1 & 2:

Expected word count: 1000 – 1500 words // 30 points

Write an Essay on Stranger Things Seasons 1 & 2 that compares and contrasts the two seasons. 

Please make sure to cover the following points:

~Does season 2 address some or any of the criticism that was leveled at season 1, such as the treatment of Eleven and the other women characters within the plot?

~ Discuss the overall success of season 2 thematically and stylistically. What evidence can you find on viewership numbers and how the audience has changed since season 1?

~Where do you think season 3 will lead? What narrative threads were opened in season 2 that might be further explored within season 3? Enumerate at least three such threads and predict what may happen within each.
